In John chapter 16, we read the words of our Lord Iesus telling His disciples that when the Holy Spirit comes, the Spirit will convict the world of three things:
- Of sin,
- Of righteousness, and
- Of judgment
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
John 16:8 - 11 New King James Version
I pondered over what these three things meant and arrived at the following interpretation:
- Sin
- the sin of the people in Israel who rejected the Anonted One
- Righteousness
- the righteousness of the Anointed One who would be raised from the dead on the third day, and be seated at the right hand of the Father.
- Judgment
- the judgment of the "ruler of this world", Satan. Earlier in John 12:31, the Lord Iesus told the crowd around him, "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out."
Brothers and Sisters in the Lord Iesus, let us ponder over these words of our Lord. Let us be likewise convicted by the Holy Spirit.
