From the NT today, I read the first three chapters of the First Epistle of John.
1 John chapter 2 verse 27 tells us of the anointing which we received from him (Christos, the Anointed One). This is the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit that Christos received from God His Father when he was raised to the right side of God. And this was the anointing that was first poured out on the disciples in the Upper Room on the Day of Pentecost, recorded for us in Acts chapter 2. (See Acts 2:33 below).
Acts 2:33 GNB
He has been raised to the right side of God, his Father, and has received from him the Holy Spirit, as he had promised. What you now see and hear is his gift that he has poured out on us.
1 John 2:27 KJV
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you,
and ye need not that any man teach you:
but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things,
and is truth,
and is no lie,
and even as it hath taught you,
ye shall abide in him.
The Good News Bible removes some ambiguity from this verse by referring to the anointing "received of him" as "Christ has poured out his Spirit on you", as shown below.
1 John 2:27 GNB
But as for you, Christ has poured out his Spirit on you.
As long as his Spirit remains in you,
you do not need anyone to teach you.
For his Spirit teaches you about everything,
and what he teaches is true,
not false.
Obey the Spirit's teaching, then,
and remain in union with Christ.
Brothers and Sisters in the Lord Iesus, the Anointed One, have you received the Anointing of the Spirit from our Lord? Let us obey the teaching of the Spirit of God that we have received through the Anointing.
