This morning I finished reading the last six chapters of the book of Amos in the OT.
In Amos chapter 8, the prophet prophesied against the great wickedness of the people of Israel who "trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land" (Amos 8:4), so much so that the time had come for Yehovah to send a different type of famine across the land of Israel. This will not be a famine of food or water. Instead, it will be a famine of the word of Yehovah.
Amos 8:11 - 12 NIV
11‘The days are coming,’ declares the Sovereign Lord*,
‘when I will send a famine through the land –
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.
12People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it.
* Sovereign Lord : Adonai Yehovah, or the Lord Yehovah
